Rodent Control in the Marina

Much of the Marina sits on former landfill, mostly dredged bay mud and sand. The 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition was held on the site, and after the fair most of its buildings came down and the neighborhood was finished in the 1920s. The Palace of Fine Arts is the only Exposition building still standing where it was built. In 1989 the Loma Prieta earthquake liquefied the fill and did heavy damage, and much of the neighborhood was rebuilt.

So a lot of Marina buildings have been repaired or rebuilt in sections. Wherever new work meets old, there are gaps worth checking.

Near the Water

The Marina Green, the boat marina and Fort Mason are right there. The health department calls the Norway rat the wharf rat too. Waterfront areas, trash cans and restaurants all keep rats fed. Homes closest to the water and to Chestnut Street's restaurants see more of them.

Chestnut Street

Chestnut runs from Fillmore to Lyon and is lined with restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops and bars. Businesses there should have a regular commercial rodent program. If you live above a shop, see apartment building rodents.
