Rodent Control in Noe Valley
Noe Valley has one of the highest concentrations of row houses in San Francisco. Most homes went up in the late 1800s and early 1900s, especially after the 1906 earthquake, and many are classic Victorians and Edwardians. The neighborhood runs from 21st Street down to 30th, between Guerrero and San Jose Avenue on the east and Diamond Heights Boulevard on the west.
Row houses share side walls. That's the first thing to know about rodents here: a rat or mouse that gets into one house can reach the next one without going outside.
Shared Walls
When the house next door has mice, you might hear them in your wall too. Sealing your own house still helps, especially at the foundation and the garage door. If you're on good terms with your neighbors, it helps even more when both houses get sealed. Rodent exclusion covers the work.
- Scratching in the shared wall at night
- Droppings in the garage or under the front stairs
- Chewed garden supplies in the back
Old Houses, New Kitchens
A lot of Noe Valley houses have been remodeled more than once. Each round of work leaves gaps: a pipe hole that wasn't patched, a vent that moved, an addition that doesn't meet the original wall tightly. A tech will want to see where the new parts meet the old. Families with small kids should ask about trap placement and why bait stations need to be locked.
