Rodent Control in SoMa

SoMa is named for where it is, south of Market Street, and it takes in Yerba Buena, Rincon Hill, South Beach and South Park. After the 1906 earthquake destroyed the area, it was rebuilt with unusually wide streets and a lot of industry. Today it's a mix of warehouses, auto shops, nightclubs, residential hotels, art spaces, loft apartments, condos and tech offices. Loft condos started showing up in the 1990s.

Old industrial buildings next to new housing, with restaurants and bars in between, means rats have both shelter and food.

Lofts and Converted Buildings

A converted warehouse has big open spaces, old walls and lots of pipes and conduit running through. Mice and rats travel those runs. In a condo or loft building, tell the HOA or management, since common areas and the building shell are their responsibility. See apartment building rodents.

Restaurants, Bars and Offices

Kitchens, bars and office break rooms all need a plan. A commercial rodent program with regular visits, door sweeps, sealing and a written log is the usual setup. Keep garbage in pest-proof, watertight containers with tight lids.
